Durant Green School Program
Since 2016, the Durant Green School Program has been working to connect people to sustainability thinking and action. Operating within the Durant Independent School District, the program directly empowers students and teachers to ‘green’ their school. The program also serves as a bridge to the community by building collaborative projects and connections.
History
Hundreds of students have participated in the Durant Green School Program, which includes elective classes and green team membership opportunities. The Durant Intermediate School Green Team is the flagship program, which launched in 2016. In 2017, the program expanded to Durant Middle School, and in 2019 to Durant High School.
In 2017, the program earned three environmental excellence awards from Keep Oklahoma Beautiful. The DIS Green Team was awarded the K-12 Environmental Excellence Award and the Environmental Best of the Best Award. The DMS Green School Program won the Do Your Art to Stop Littering Contest.
