Last Friday night was a great time at the Literature Fest, hosted by Rising Dawn. In addition to providing a night-time market, the event presented several performers who provided music and poetry. Our Green School Band was happy to be part of all the wonderful performances. It was a beautiful evening and by the end a sense of community developed as we chatted about our shared experiences and support for one another. To keep up with similar events, check out Rising Dawn's website at https://risingdawn.squarespace.com/. Dawn Solis is the founder and is working to continue building Rising Dawn's mission and organizational capacity. "Rising is an art activist organization that seeks to connect humanity through art in a time in which censorship, inauthenticity and apathy run rampant."

Our Green School Band is a project we started last spring to spread awareness about sustainability and hopefully bring some joy to the world. We write original songs about environmental and societal issues, and mental health. We also hope to raise funds for our program to pay for supplies and part-time staff. Our members include students Bronx Rodriguez, Alyia Pugh, and Lylith Quesenberry, and

school staff Elizabeth (Libby) Callicoat and Josh Wilkins.

If you're interested in hosting a Green School Band performance, please email elizabeth.callicoat@durantisd.org. Thank you.
